International Women's Day 2021: The Women of SEVEN BRO7HERS

International Women's Day 2021: The Women of SEVEN BRO7HERS

Every year since 1911, all over the world, 8th March marks the celebration of International Women’s Day. A day to raise awareness to equality and celebrate the achievements of women throughout history.

This year we wanted to raise a glass to our female members of the team who contribute so much to the business and we wouldn’t be where we are today if it wasn’t for them. Especially throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our team have remained strong to keep providing you all with the best possible service.

Despite being a company of seven brothers, we pride ourselves on having such a varied team around us; both in the brewery and our beerhouses; with a vast amount of senior roles being adopted by women.

Here we present to you the amazing women of SEVEN BRO7HERS...

Alison

ALISON: Head of Marketing

• Introduce yourself...

I'm Alison and I am the Head of Marketing at SEVEN BRO7HERS BREWING CO.

From day one, 7 years ago,  I have worked for the Brewery and now head up the Marketing Team as well as working closely with the beerhouses and events teams.

• How did you come to work for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

At 40 years young I did not expect another change in career but I jumped from the primary school classroom into the craft beer world! I was sold on the idea of the brewery from inception on a trip away with my partner, Keith (BRO7HER no.2).  Whilst he was working away in Oslo I visited regularly and began my own craft beer journey. An amazing city with many brew taps and incredible beers.

I started off assisting with admin and sales when we first opened in 2014 and have taken on various roles throughout the past 7 years.

• What is your favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer?

My all time favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer is the Porter Stout with distinct star anise flavour, we sadly do not make this anymore but a close runner up from our current range is our Hoppy Pale Ale - this beer is packed with character and always delivers.

• Where in the world would you like to be drinking a beer when Covid restrictions have been lifted?

So many places... A freshly pulled pint in our beerhouses will be amazing but a little further away from home would have to be a little Spanish hideaway near Barcelona called Castelldefels.

• What do you enjoy most about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

It is never boring! Every day brings something new and there is always something interesting happening.  I am part of an incredible team and love to look back to the start of the journey and feel really proud of what we have created.

Emma

EMMA: Head of Sales

• Short intro about yourself. Job title, how long been working here, etc...

I’m Emma and I’m the Head of Sales for SEVEN BRO7HERS. I’ve been working here for nearly 3 years and I’ve worked on some very exciting projects, met some amazing people, and got through a global pandemic!

• How did you come to work for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I’ve worked in the drinks industry for 10 years in lots of different roles. At the time the opportunity with SEVEN BRO7HERS came up I was a sales manager for a very well-known craft brewery, but I wanted more responsibility and to work closer with a business to see it grow. SEVEN BRO7HERS was perfect for this, they had lots of exciting plans and I knew instantly that I wanted to be a part of that!

• What is your favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer?

Juicy IPA. Sitting outside at our beerhouse in Middlewood Locks on a sunny day, a pint of Juicy IPA and plate of nachos makes me a very happy lady!

• Where in the world would you like to be drinking a beer when Covid restrictions have been lifted?

Hopefully NYC on my Honeymoon!

• What do you enjoy most about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I love being part of what feels like a huge extended family, where your ideas are encouraged and we all celebrate our achievements together as a team.

Toni

TONI: General Manager at SEVEN BRO7HERS Beerhouse, Middlewood Locks

• Introduce yourself...

My name's Toni and I'm the general manager at SEVEN BRO7HERS Middlewood Locks. I've worked for the company for nearly 3 years, starting out as Assistant Manager at the Ancoats beerhouse.

• How did you come to work for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I actually found out that the Ancoats branch was hiring through a chance meeting with an old friend. I mentioned I was leaving my current job and he said he'd heard about the role and I should apply. I managed a bar which supplied SEVEN BRO7HERS beer and knew the rep, James. I emailed him and asked if the position had been filled, when he said no I sent my CV over and the rest is history...

• What is your favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer?

Marshmallow Stout.

• Where in the world would you like to be drinking a beer when Covid restrictions have been lifted?

Just not my sofa! Seriously probably Copenhagen in any Mikkeller bar or in my home town local pub with my family.

• What do you enjoy most about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS

I really enjoy setting up events at the beerhouses. We've had lots of local businesses come in and run stalls and classes as well as yoga and a pint nights and pub quizzes. The brothers are big on family and community so we get lots of chances to engage with the public via events like that.

Sam

SAM: Senior Designer

• Introduce yourself...

I am Samantha McAvoy and I am the Senior Designer at SEVEN BRO7HERS. I worked here throughout studying part time (since around 2015) and have been working full time since 2019.

• How did you come to work for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I (like many others) am part of the family. My dad is one of the SEVEN BRO7HERS and being the only designer in the family they relied on me to do the odd bits such as flyers, posters etc since they began as a brewery. As the brewery grew and my career developed (working at Shield in NQ and then BBC at MediaCityUK) they needed more support. I quit my previous job and started full time at the family business!

• What is your favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer?

This is a TOUGH ONE! It is a toss up between Honeycomb and Watermelon Wheat Beer. They are both what they say on the tin, with a massive hit of honey and watermelon, which I find sometimes isn't the case when a beer claims to be a certain flavour. If I was pushed I would go with Watermelon as its an easy drinker all year round and delicious.

• Where in the world would you like to be drinking a beer when Covid restrictions have been lifted?

Of course somewhere sunny on a beach would be brill but as we have a puppy I would love to escape to Wales to our little cabin and have a beer by the campfire with my family, dogs and the cows on the field next door!

• What do you enjoy most about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I enjoy the passion that everyone has every single day. It can be hard working with 7 of your uncles/dad but the over arching quality within the entire team is passion for the brand and how excited we all are to see it grow.

Margaret

MARGARET: Financial Controller

• Introduce yourself...

I'm Margaret and I am the Financial Controller at SEVEN BRO7HERS. I have been working in finance pretty much since graduating and have been working at SEVEN BRO7HERS since November 2018. I look after the finances for the Brewery and the Beerhouses.

• How did you come to work for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

It was totally by chance – I was looking to move away from my last role, saw the job advert, applied and the rest as they say is history.

• What is your favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer?

I love all the beers that the team create. I think they are really talented. I have to admit though, my all time favourite is a special that was produced in 2019 – the Red IPA – beautiful!

• Where in the world would you like to be drinking a beer when Covid restrictions have been lifted?

I am missing the simple things like seeing friends and chatting with a beer. When this is over I have arranged with friends to go to the SEVEN BRO7HERS Middlewood Locks Beerhouse in Salford for a lazy Sunday lunch.

• What do you enjoy most about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I love the fact that there is a real family feel here regardless of whether you are family or not. That combined with the fact it is a very fast paced environment with a lot of innovation and collaboration makes it one of the best places I have worked. There is never a dull moment and always something new to keep me on my toes.

Francesca

FRANCESCA: Digital Marketing Assistant

• Introduce yourself...

Hi, I’m Francesca and I am the Digital Marketing Assistant at SEVEN BRO7HERS BREWING CO. I have been with the company since December 2019 and I have loved every minute of it.

• How did you come to work for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

I started out my journey here through an apprenticeship. I was already familiar with the company and a regular at the Ancoats Beerhouse and when I saw the vacancy, I jumped at the opportunity. I had to go through an intense boot-camp day of interviews with a range of companies but I was solely there for the job with these guys. I am super lucky to have been selected from a pretty large group of candidates and here I am now. It is very exciting being part of such a rapidly growing business and I look forward to growing with the company.

• What is your favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer?

My favourite SEVEN BRO7HERS beer is by far our Honeycomb Pale Ale. Delicious! I could drink it anytime, anywhere…

• Where in the world would you like to be drinking a beer when Covid restrictions have been lifted?

At this point, absolutely anywhere other than my own home. I can’t wait to be back out at a local pub with a freshly poured pint. I’m really looking forward to a holiday abroad, sipping on a cold one in the sunshine.

• What do you enjoy most about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS?

The best thing about working for SEVEN BRO7HERS in particular, is the fact they are - quite literally - just one big family; it’s great to be a part of that! I also love being able to get creative every day and produce exciting new content for the social media pages.

Our amazing women

Happy International Women's Day from all of us at SEVEN BRO7HERS!
