Help Save Salford Lads Club

Help Save Salford Lads Club

A collaboration immersed in history. With links to brewing as part of its origins, it seems very befitting for another brewing family to partner with Salford Lads Club to help save the club from potential closure.

We first partnered with SLC last year to launch a Helles Lager with £1.50 of the proceeds from each can sale going towards the running and operational costs of the club. The beer was a huge success and so we have partnered with SLC once again this year with a new beer, an IPA, and this time we’re launching it in keg too! As some of you may be aware, last month SLC made a shock announcement that due to rising maintenance costs and a drop in grant funding, the club is under threat of closure.

Opening in 1903, SLC was pioneered by the Groves brothers with one main mission – ‘to brighten young people’s lives and make good citizens.’ We recently discovered that the Groves brothers also owned and operated their very own brewery just a stone’s throw away from the Club itself. The Groves and Whitnall Brewery operated from 1889 to 1961 creating beers such as ‘Red Rose Stout’ and ‘Light Amber Ale’.

The Groves Brothers were two of ten children; a fact that makes this partnership between SLC and SEVEN BRO7HERS Brewery seem even more fitting. With 21 children between our two families, 2 breweries, and a passion for family values and community, this is a partnership that we are truly proud of. In keeping with family connections, we have asked Jess Eckersley, the granddaughter of longstanding member Archie Swift, to design the new can artwork for the IPA label.

Three lives that SLC changed for the better were those of our Dad, Eric, and his two brothers James and David. In 1957 they joined the club as young boys, getting them off the streets of their neighbouring Ordsall home, and their names can be found inscribed on the wall inside the lads club. Fast forward 57 years, and our Dad, through his passion for homebrewing inspired us to start SEVEN BRO7HERS Brewery. We like to think that the fundamentals of togetherness, teamwork and strength that our Dad learnt at SLC, instilled in him what it took to become successful, and we as a family will be forever grateful of this.

And so, to keep its doors open to continue changing the lives of so many young people in the Salford and Manchester area, £250,000 needs to be raised. I ask that you join us in making sure that this legendary institution stays open so they can continue adding names to the 22,500 wall of names of youngsters that have been members, for many more years to come. The new beer will be available from November 23rd at Salford Lads Club and some select locations around Salford and Manchester. With £10 from each keg sold going to the club.

You can also grab a can of the brand new Salford Lads Club IPA from our webshop now! With £10 from each can being donated to the club.
